Notice to Contractors: Utility Building Construction

Homeward Bound Adirondacks invites sealed bids for the construction of a utility building at the retreat site located at 12901 State Hwy 30, Malone, New York. This project encompasses a range of tasks including site preparation and the erection of the building, which will feature a foundation, wood framing, insulation, exterior siding, installation of doors and windows, the assembly of pre-engineered roof trusses and roofing system, an in-slab hydronic heating system, a ventilation setup, comprehensive plumbing including drainage and water distribution systems, and a full electrical installation covering power distribution and lighting. Additionally, the scope of work includes external trenching for water supply from an existing drilled well to the new building, and the extension of underground electrical connections from an existing shed to the utility building. Do you know a deserving combat veteran or wounded warrior?

The American Heroes Flag Poles Foundation, honors the service and sacrifice of American combat veterans and wounded warriors. As the only full-time traditional wooden flagpole manufacturer in North America, they’ve pledged to donate and install 25-foot handcrafted Northern Red Oak flagpoles, complete with military ceremonies, to 20 deserving veterans each year. This heartfelt tribute, starting in the Northeastern United States, celebrates and acknowledges the long-overlooked honor of those who’ve bravely served our nation.

North Country Community College raises money for HBA

The college raised $600 for Homeward Bound Adirondacks through a pair of raffles leading up to Veterans Day! President Joe Keegan recently handed off the funds to Homeward Bound board member Amy Tuthill, the college’s associate director of recruitment and VA officer. The raffles, which included tickets to Army football and hockey games, were spearheaded by Kim Duffey, chair of our Business Program. The college also collected scores of items for veteran care packages and coordinated a letter-writing campaign to active duty members of our armed forces. Thank you to all who donated their time and money to this effort!

Veteran Helps To Raise Awareness for Veteran Suicide

During Veterans Day, Cody McCasland, a veteran and staff member of Homeward Bound Adirondacks, was joined by his wife, Sara, in a 22-mile walk to raise awareness for the urgent issue of Veteran Suicide. While Sara is not a veteran nor an employee of Homeward Bound Adirondacks, her participation alongside her husband exemplified solidarity and support for her husband and the cause. Together, their efforts resulted in raising $6700.00. Cody, serving as a Case Manager at Homeward Bound Adirondack, demonstrates unwavering dedication to the North Country Veteran Community, a commitment that is greatly admired by our organization, and supported wholeheartedly by his wife, Sara.

Hike for Homeless Vets raises $2,000.00 for HBA

A heartfelt ‘THANK YOU’ to Andrew Topham (U.S. Army Retired) from Poland, NY, and to all the generous individuals who contributed to the ‘Hike for Homeless Vets’ campaign Andrew started in order to raised funds while hiking on the Appalachian Trail this year. The funds raised will support Homeward Bound Adirondacks in our ongoing mission: “to be a beacon of healing and resilience, restoring the strength and well-being of those who have sacrificed for our nation.

Homeward Bound Adirondacks receives VA suicide prevention grant

Homeward Bound Adirondacks is working with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to prevent Veteran suicide in the Northern New York community. Through the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP), Homeward Bound Adirondacks was recently awarded $750, 000.00 from the VA to support its mission of preventing Veteran suicide. The SSG Fox SPGP is a three-year program that provides funding to community-based organizations serving Veterans and their families with innovative approaches to suicide prevention. “By prioritizing suicide prevention, we can create a support network that reaches those who are struggling, offering them hope, compassion, and a lifeline when they need it most,” said Valerie Ainsworth – Executive Director. “Together, we can create a community that gives every person a chance to overcome challenges and discover they are not alone on their journey toward healing and recovery.” With the SSG Fox SPGP award, Homeward Bound Adirondacks plans to provide suicide prevention, case management, out reach, screening and assessments, and linkage and transportation services to Veterans in the Northern New York area.
